The WORLDFair Experience

Each year, the WORLDFair Annual Meeting brings together the lysosomal disease community for a multi-day event featuring:

  • Educational sessions led by experts in lysosomal diseases

  • Interactive workshops for patients, families, and caregivers

  • Opportunities to connect with researchers, clinicians, and fellow community members

  • Updates on the latest research, therapies, and clinical trials

The Annual Meeting is designed to provide patients and families with the knowledge and resources they need, while also fostering collaboration with the broader research and medical community.

Mission

The WORLDFair Annual Conference is dedicated to patient education and community engagement for individuals and families affected by lysosomal diseases. Our mission is to provide up-to-date information on lysosomal diseases and available treatments, support patients and caregivers, and foster collaboration between patients, families, healthcare providers, and researchers.

By bringing together diverse members of the lysosomal disease community, WORLDFair creates opportunities to share knowledge, experiences, and insights that contribute to better care, understanding, and progress toward effective therapies.

What Are Lysosomal Diseases?

Lysosomal diseases are a group of rare inherited disorders caused by deficiencies in enzymes or proteins that function in the lysosome, a part of the cell responsible for breaking down and recycling materials. These conditions affect multiple tissues throughout the body and often lead to chronic disability, progressive degeneration, and, in some cases, a shortened lifespan.

There are more than 70 identified lysosomal diseases, but effective treatments exist for only a small subset. Because these diseases are rare, researchers face significant challenges in understanding their natural history, developing meaningful clinical trial outcomes, and recruiting participants.

Education, awareness, and community support are critical to improving outcomes for patients and advancing research.

Why Patient Education Matters

Patient Education

WORLDFair focuses on patient education because informed patients and caregivers are empowered to make better decisions about their care and to actively participate in research initiatives. Education also fosters communication between patients, families, healthcare providers, and researchers, ensuring that the patient experience is central to ongoing research and treatment development.

Through education and collaboration, WORLDFair supports the ultimate goal: improving health and quality of life for individuals living with lysosomal diseases.

Who We Serve

  • Patients and families affected by lysosomal diseases

  • Caregivers and support networks

  • Healthcare providers and clinicians

  • Researchers and scientists

  • Patient advocacy organizations

By creating a space for learning, connection, and resource sharing, WORLDFair ensures that all members of the community are informed, engaged, and supported.

Looking Ahead

WORLDFair™ is more than just an annual event. It is a growing hub for patient education, community connection, and ongoing engagement around lysosomal diseases. Our goal is to continue expanding educational opportunities, resources, and events that empower patients, support families, and contribute to meaningful advancements in lysosomal disease research and care.
